Dragons goaltender, Daniel Allin, has been outstanding in between the pipes during December.
He won five starts in a row, helping to backstop the Dragons to a five game winning streak. His efforts on the team’s recent northern road trip was outstanding. Starting three games in three days against three tough North division opponents, Allin showed signs of good things to come in the net for Drumheller.
“I think we have a bright future here… it’s something we are all excited for.”
His performance earned him the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week. The 18-year-old rookie goaltender (Edmonton, AB) picked up a 2-1 shootout win over the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, turning aside 36 of 37 shots for the win and was named Viterra Star of the Game. Against the division leading Bonnyville Pontiacs, Allin faced 60 shots, only allowing two goals, picking up the two points and another First Star nod. He would finish the northern road trip with a 5-2 victory, making 28 saves in the win over the Lloydminster Bobcats.
“It’s not an easy task, but with the team that we have it’s definitely something that can be done,” explained Allin. “It’s a tough northern road trip there are some tough opponents but it’s good we got the three ‘W’s.”
Allin joined the team in early November, acquired from the KIJHL and has gone on to post a 5-3-1 record, with a 2.11 goals against average (GAA) and a .938 save percentage (Sv%) in that time.
