Defenseman Philpott Contributes Early with New Team

The Drumheller Dragons newest acquisition, (D) James Philpott, made a quick contribution to the lineup when he joined the Dragons on their first northern road trip of the year.

Philpott was on the Dragons most recent three game road trip up north with stops in Drayton Valley, Grande Prairie and Whitecourt. He picked up his first point as a Drumheller Dragon, assisting on a goal by Brett Edwards in a 5-4 overtime win by the Dragons over the Thunder.

Philpott is no stranger to Alberta originally growing up in Calgary. He is vaguely familiar with the Alberta Junior Hockey League too, appearing in five games as an affiliate player for the Canmore Eagles in 2017-18.

The 6’1 180-pound defenseman spent last season with the Calgary Buffaloes in the Alberta Midget Hockey League where he picked up 13 points in 34 games.

In 2018 the 18-year-old played in six games with the West Kelowna Warriors of the BCHL this season, before being acquired by Drumheller in mid-October.
