Hassan Hopes For a Hot Start

It’s a new season and there is a heightened focus for Drumheller Dragons sophomore forward, #23 Hassan Akl.

With a full season of Junior hockey now under his belt, the 19-year-old is looking ahead to his second year with optimism.

“I feel really confident this year,” Akl reveals. “I feel a lot more comfortable on the ice and I feel that I can be used in a bigger role, as well.”

As far as taking on a bigger role on this team, Akl hopes to prove himself worthy of more ice-time, but knows he needs to continue to work hard to get the opportunities with the Drumheller Dragons.

The Calgary, Alta. native spent the summer working hard in the gym and adding extra skating time to his workouts in order to be ready for the start of the regular season. Early on, he still looks to build on his play so far.

“It’s still pretty early, I still think I’ve got a lot to prove. You’ve still got to work your way up, nothing is really handed to you. You’ve got to earn everything and work hard for it but if I get off to a hot start like I plan to, I should get more chances.”

Akl has 4-points (1G, 3A) in 5 games to begin the 2019-2020 season.
