On the Move: MacGregor, Akl, Balas and Nicholetts

The Drumheller Dragons were busy on Wednesday afternoon, announcing two separate transactions with the Spruce Grove Saints and the Calgary Canucks.

First, the team shipped the CJHL rights for (F) Brayden Nicholetts to Spruce Grove in exchange for (F) Bruce MacGregor. In the second transaction, the Drumheller Dragons acquired the CJHL rights of goaltender, Brett Balas, from the Calgary Canucks in exchange for forward Hassan Akl.

Bruce MacGregor (Sherwood Park, Alta.) is currently playing in his second season in the AJHL. He has played in 65 AJHL games posting 3 goals and 21 assists for 24 points (3G, 21A, 24 Pts.). Brayden Nicholetts was on a tryout agreement with the Lincoln Stars (USHL) to start the year but finds himself heading home to join the Saints moving forward. Nicholetts played three seasons with the Dragons (2016-2019) recording (32 G, 40 A, 72 Pts. 370 PIMS).

Drumheller Dragons head coach/GM, Kevin Hasselberg, is pleased with the new acquisitions.

“We are excited to add Bruce to our roster,” Hasselberg commented. “His experience and playing characteristics will fit well with our current group, we expect Bruce to contribute right away.” (read more)

Brett Balas is a 2001 born goaltender from Calgary who is currently with the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League. Balas has a 2.96 GAA and a .857 save percentage in 3 GP this season.
