Roc the Rookie Earns League Nod

Drumheller Dragons rookie forward, Roc Truman, was recently announced as nominee for the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Rookie of the Year for the 2018/19 season.

The Alberta Junior Hockey League announced it’s league-wide nominees for a variety of awards. Truman is up for the Dick White Trophy as Rookie of the Year on a list with three other nominees.

  3. Carter Savoie – Sherwood Park Crusaders
  4. Matt Davis – Spruce Grove Saints

It’s been a whirlwind ride in the 18-year-old’s inaugural season in the AJHL. First, it was announced in late December (’18) that Roc, along with his brother Scout, were committed to the U Mass Lowell River Hawks of the NCAA Hockey East Conference, after their junior career.

Roc has been tearing up the score sheet this season, as well. He has appeared in 48 games with the Dragons so far this season, posting 22 goals, 17 assists, 39 points. He picked up a franchise record along the way, joining the books as just the third player All-Time to score a short-handed goal in back-to-back games.

Tyler Moir (2007-08) and Chad Hurtubise (2016-17) are the other two players on that list.
